Grand Prismatic Geyser on a chilly Fall day
Old Faithful may be more famous, but the Grand Prismatic Hot Spring is the most photographed thermal feature in Yellowstone. That’s because of its crazy-bright colors and enormous size.

Flagg Ranch Icicle
Icicles captured my attention the entire trip. This is at Flagg Ranch. The two snow coach tours into Yellowstone NP began at Flagg Ranch with a warm buffet breakfast. Located between Grand Teton and Yellowstone NP, Flagg Ranch was developed as a private ranch by the Rockefeller family on the land that once was a military post. In the 1970s, the land and buildings were donated back to the National Park Service and it is now managed by a private organization for the NPS

River Runs through Yellowstone
The Lewis River in Yellowstone National Park is named after Merriweathet Lewis. The 18 mile-long tributary of the Snake River. Brown, rainbow and Yellowstone cutthroat trout are found in the river. Yes, I was thigh deep in snow for this shot. I probably got our guide a bit nervous.

Snowy Bison Abstract
Abstracts can be found everywhere. Even in snowy bison coats.

Bison Blizzard
Bison were everywhere in Yellowstone both days we went in by snow coach. They are majestic animals that should be appreciated at a safe distance. For most of the bison shots, I used a 500mm lens. This was shot from the roof of the snow coach.

Bison Coat Textures

Love the texture of this guy’s coat.

Sleepy Bison
Bison were everywhere in Yellowstone both days we went in by snow coach. They are majestic animals that should be appreciated at a safe distance. For most of the bison shots, I used a 500mm lens. This guy was sleeping when we stopped. Patience paid off and I got a shot as he woke up.

Bedhead Bison
Bison were everywhere in Yellowstone both days we went in by snow coach. They are majestic animals that should be appreciated at a safe distance. For most of the bison shots, I used a 500mm lens. It was pretty windy for this shot, you can tell from bed head.

Black Sand Basin Reflection Pond
Black Sand Basin was our last stop of our first snow coach tour in Yellowstone National Park. Our guide had received reports that there were coyote sightings there. No coyotes were found but it stopped snowing long enough to get this shot.
